Get your Wendy house project off the ground
None, really, a garden shed is just a specific use of a wendy house.
They typically have one door, one window, and no fixed foundations- a wooden pallet floor supported on brick pillars. They can have electrical supplies, and plumbing, and they can be used for a variety of reasons, but they cannot be habitable.
So why would you want a shed rather than a Wendy house structure that you can turn into a garden cottage at a later date?
Its a question of cost, planning, and therefore ease of construction. See our section on planning, but a structure build as a shed also requires less stringent building regulations.
If you looking for a more advanced use case then see our pages on
A garden shed is a timber framed structure. We start with a solid pallete floor on which we build a treated timber frame. The frame is then clad with a suitable material to make it weather tight.
It is then your choice whether the inside is left unfinished (for a basic shed) or we can erect plasterboard if required to give a better finish.
Roofs can be either flat (actually, not flat, but very shallow pitch where the roof slopes the full width of the building) or apexed (a typical 'A' frame roof construction).
We clad sheds in the same range of products as our other Wendy houses, namely, treated pine boards (overlap only)and Nutec or other fiber cement boards (in overlap or flat panel).
It really depends on where you are, how big your shed is, how big your property is, and where on your property the shed is going. And obviously, if you build a shed you cannot later turn it into a garden cottage.
Its a myth that sheds definitely do not need planning permission. However, the rules are much more relaxed when it comes to sheds and in most cases you will need little to no planning permission, or a simple agreement with your neighbours. Garden cupboards will probably not need any planning permission except in extreme circumstances.
It really is a case by case basis and we are happy to assist you with your planning questions.
